I’ve tried to answer as many questions as I could, but if I’ve missed anything feel free to leave a comment and I’ll get back to you.
What’s your availability looking like?
As of December 2015:
2016 is 70% booked
2017 is 15% booked
2018 is 5% booked
How far in advance do we have to book you?
I’d recommend booking as soon as you decide you love my work and it’s perfect for you. Spaces fill up fast so to save the date and avoid disappointment, book as soon as possible. Most couples book me 1 to 2 years in advance, although some couples do get in touch at short notice and I’ve been available so it’s always worth checking even if your date is not that far away!
Can we meet up before I book?
I’m more than happy to meet up with couples before booking over coffee and cake or a drink so we can make sure we get along. It’s important that you love my work as well as liking me as a person since I’ll be there for the majority of your day.
Do we have to meet before booking?
If you’d like to have a chat over the phone or skype for various reasons that’s more than OK. I do recommend having a chat before going ahead with the booking just to make sure we can go over how I’d capture the day and that we’d be happy to spend the day together.
How far do you travel?
I’m an International and Destination photographer so I’m not only willing to, but excited to travel to any corner of the UK or the world for photoshoots and weddings alike! For weddings that would take longer than 2h to get to there will be a small supplement for travel expenses. If the wedding is far away I’ll get near the location the night before so there aren’t any worries or problems caused by traffic.
How do I book you?
When you want to go ahead and book all you need to do to secure the date is pay a £250 deposit for the day and sign the contracts. You’ll receive an invoice confirming your date is now secured once the payments has been made. After I’ll send you the contract to sign. I normally send a digital copy to be green, but if you prefer a hard copy of the signed contract let me know and I’ll print one off and send it to you.
How do I get in touch?
How long does it take to get an email reply?
I aim to reply to all my e-mails as soon as possible. Usually I reply Monday to Thursdays because I’m booked over the weekend (or on the very rare occasion I have a weekend off) but if it has been a few days since you’ve e-mailed and haven’t heard back from me even if it is just to say I’ve received the e-mail and will get back to you by a certain time, please get in touch either by e-mail again or text/phone just to check I’ve received it or that a reply has been sent. We can go from there depending on if the issue was on my end or yours, but be assured I love to make my couples happy so I reply as soon as possible and try to fix any problems immediately.
Can I see some weddings in detail?
Please visit the blog. You’ll be able to find numerous examples in detail from past weddings I’ve photographed as well as shoots, recommended suppliers and advice.
Can I have a USB of my wedding images?
As a standard the images come on a personalised DVD, but you can opt to have a USB instead. All you have to do is let me know when your images are ready that you’d prefer one instead.
Can I print my images?
Yes, the images come with personal printing rights so you can print them as you wish. I leave the choice up to you whether to order prints from VeVi or not, but bear in mind there’s a large difference in quality between those I can print for you and the ones you can get in a high street printing shop. All my prints are Archival quality which means the colours won’t fade, the quality is much higher, and the sun won’t discolour them just to name a few benefits.
How long will you be at the wedding?
Normally from bridal preparations until after the first dance, but if you want me to start later in the day or have plans like fireworks for later, I can adjust my normal times without problem.
How long after the wedding before we get to see the photos?
You’ll get a sneak preview in a few days after the wedding so you can share them with friends on social media and have to enjoy them before you go away. It makes the wait seem a little shorter, although the image gallery will be ready for you within 1-3 weeks after the wedding anyway.
How does ordering an album work?
Once the images are ready you’ll select your favourites, then I’ll design an album page by page making sure it reflects the day accurately and beautifully in a storybook style. When it’s done you’ll be sent a preview and you’ll be able to request changes if you’d like any as many times as you’d like until the album is what you’ve dreamt of. Once you’ve approved it, I’ll send it off to be handmade.
How many images do I get in an album?
It depends on the size and style of album you pick. If you get in touch to let me know which you prefer, I’m more than happy to send you an estimate image wise.
Can I customise the package options you have?
I offer bespoke services. You can add an extra photographer, thank you cards, prints, albums & parent albums and much more. Just get in touch so we can discuss an “a la carte” cover for you.
I’m on a tight budget, but love your work. Can you do something?
I offer a half day cover for such circumstances although if you’d want a longer cover than that we can discuss various options to make it affordable to book me such as a payment plan with 0% interest, reduced hours or a reduced number of images. Get in touch and we can see what can be done.
I’m unable to offer reduced hours and reduced number of images in peak season for weekend dates.
I met you at a wedding fair, but the offer has expired. Can I still get the offer?
I give wedding fair offers quite a long time to be valid for, but to maintain the offer price from the wedding fair the booking must be completed before the offers expires.
We have a winter wedding. Do you discount off season?
I absolutely love winter weddings and whilst I offer mid-week discounts, none of the discounts I offer are based on the time of year the wedding is taking place on.
If we particularly wanted to have a copy of certain shots unmodified would we able to have these?
I do not give out unedited images under any circumstance as the work is representative of me and the work delivered. I keep the style natural, but see it as my artistic privilege to deliver the work in a certain finish. That’s why I encourage couples to make sure they love my style above all before hiring me.
I hate posed shots. Do I have to pose?
I know what you’re dreading: the fake smile and awkward embraces. I feel the same way. I try to direct instead of posing trying to create an opportunity for a real emotion instead of stiffly posing my clients. I love to capture those real moments where my couples get lost for a moment and you can see pure joy. I find the complimentary Engagement Shoot is always a great help towards achieving this on the wedding day as it helps you relax as well.
Do you do group photos?
I do and am more than happy to take group photographs. I recommend no more than 10 so you can enjoy your day and not feel like you’re missing out on mingling with all your nearest and dearests.
I have some ideas. Could you do them?
I’m always happy to hear ideas, make plans and see your Pinterest boards. Happy to try anything as well as brainstorm with you and give advice on how we can achieve a specific photo or effect. I’m up for talking and planing anything if it’s not trying to exactly copy someone else’s work.
Are you insured?
I hold full professional indemnity and liability insurance as well as equipment insurance for theft, loss, accidental damage. I’m covered for pretty much anything that comes my way.
What type of cameras do you use?
Please note that I keep my equipment up to date and a fiend for upgrading so I’m likely to change the models I currently have by the time your wedding comes around. That being sad, I am a Canon user and I shoot on 2 cameras on the day with a third stored in the back of the car as an emergency back-up. The cameras I currently have: Canon 5D MK3, Canon 5D MK2, Canon 6D. All are professional level DSLR cameras.
Do you have backups?
I’m nothing if not prepared! I work on 2 cameras on the day but carry a 3rd just in case. I have 6 lenses, 2 flashes, a video light and a number of other things so pretty much nothing can come up that will make me unable to continue shooting on the day even if I were to fall in a lake or fountain! (We’ve all seen the YouTube videos)
What if it rains or we have bad weather?
I love a challenge and a fun couple who won’t let the rain dampen their spirits. You can get some truly amazing images in the rain! What you might consider to be bad weather, could just be an opportunity for truly different photographs. If you do however dream of a sunny effect you can relax and have fun on your day, then arrange a Rock The Frock photoshoot for another day. No matter your attitude, you can just embrace the weather for what it is on the day and we can have fun with it.
How many photographers will there be at my wedding?
It’s normally just me on the day but I do offer the possibility to add a second photographer to any of my packages.
How much extra it would cost to send a second photographer?
Currently a second photographer is £250 to add.
How long does the second photographer stay?
They’ll be there from just after the boys start to get ready and stay as long as I do, until after the first dance.
How will you be dressed and your second shooter if you have one?
Smart casual is the usual. I need to be comfortable due to carrying so much heavy equipment in one go but I’m always presentable. If you prefer to request I’d be dressed a certain way that’s fine. I’ll be dressing up in a 50s dress to fit in with a wedding in 2016 so I’m always happy to take requests!
If we decided to go for just 1 photographer, what would happen if on the day you were ill or unable to attend?
The occasion hasn’t come up in the last five years at all, but have no fear, for your peace of mind you’re covered and insured by contract that someone will still be there! I will arrange for a back-up photographer that would replace me of the same style. There’s a group I tend to work with regularly and closely, that I trust as people and as artists. The replacement would be one of the 5 photographers I regularly work with and either second shoot for me or I second shoot for so the style and approach is similar. I would edit the images so they would have the same look as the rest of my work.
Do you get photography permits/permission?
Some places will require a permit or hire for taking photographs in. Even stranger is that some churches won’t allow photography. I highly advise for you to check if anything of the like is needed for the places you have in mind. You’ll have to get permission for shooting if it’s needed.
Do you do videos of the day?
I specialise in the photography side of things so don’t offer video cover, but I’m more than happy to recommend a few videographers.
We don’t want an engagement shoot. Can we skip it?
You’re more than welcome to! Most photographers sell it as an add-on, but I offer it as a free options to all my couples because of all the benefits it brings. What better way to get to know each other and make you feel comfortable in front of the camera? It’s a good opportunity to have some fun and if you haven’t sent out your save-the-date cards yet, you can always incorporate it in the photoshoot.
Do we have to provide you with a meal?
Yes, I do require a meal to be provided. Whether it’s a sandwich or a warm meal, it doesn’t matter. It’s a really long day with a lot of heavy equipment so by the time it gets to what will be my first break of the day, I’ll just be happy to be sitting down really. However as I will aim to stick close to your group it will be best for everyone if you arrange the meal in advance with the staff so I can keep my attention to whatever is going on and I can be available if something interesting happens at the drop of a hat!
Do you have any dietary requirements for your meal?
Neither me, nor any of my usual second shooters have any dietary requirements. We’re not fussy either!
